Why You Need Water Leak Detection

The plumbing system in your home is one of the most important ones that you use on a day to day basis. It also happens to be one of the most subtle systems, being largely hidden from you in the walls and floors of your home. This becomes problematic when problems like leaks develop, as you aren’t likely to discover them until they’ve had time to inflict quite a bit of damage. This is why water leak detection is so vital to maintaining the health of your plumbing system. Read on to find out what causes leaks in your plumbing, and how water leak detection can help.

Causes of Water Leaks

The most common cause of water leaks in modern homes is something called “pitted corrosion.” This is a type of corrosion that is focused on a small area, and works from the outside of the pipe inward. Copper pipes are especially susceptible to pitted corrosion, which is why this is a more common problem in modern homes. Pitted corrosion opens up very small leaks in the pipes, called “pinhole leaks.” These leaks are too small to be detected by anything but visual inspection of the pipe. This is why they so often go undiscovered until they cause a lot of damage.

Water Leak Detection

Having water leak detection conducted at least once every year is a good way to find and seal leaks before they are given the chance to damage the surrounding area. It involves a number of techniques, including video pipeline inspection and sensitive listening equipment. This allows your plumber to identify any leaks in your system as soon as possible, and fix them before they can cause larger problems.
