As hard water flows through the pipes in your home, it deposits small amounts of the minerals it carries on the surfaces it touches. These are calcium deposits. The problem is that over time, these calcium deposits grow.

Lime Scale

Once the calcium deposits grow large enough, they are referred to as lime scale. Lime scale is built up enough that it can actually restrict the flow of water through the pipes in which it is located. This can cause a massive drop in the efficiency of the system. Lime scale is also extremely difficult to remove without damaging the pipe to which it is attached.
